Nigerian female songstress and Universal Music Group/ Mavin Records act, Tiwa Savage released a brand new track named, “49-99”.

The song was released on September 5th, 2019. The name of the song references the line “49 sitting, 99 standing” from Fela Kuti’s 1978 hit “Shuffering and Shmiling.”

Also, “49-99” serves as a follow-up to her hit single, “One.”

According to Tiwa in a press release, it reflects the “hard life many Nigerians go through.” She goes on to mention that “a transit bus serves as a case study. It ought to have only 49 seated passengers, however, due to poor economic conditions, we often have nearly twice that number of passengers standing (99).”

However, the afro-pop track got a production credit from Nigerian serial hit-maker, Pheelz.

Quotable Lyrics:

49 sitting 99 standing oh my God o
I get money before no be property o
Waiting for danfo, waiting for Uber and Okada
Omo no be so, me I want to live o
I gat to get the dollar

Monkey no get skills
Igi su mo igi, l’obo fin yor
I thank you Lord
