- Set more goals related to your success
- Focus and eliminate distractions
- Practice, practice, and more practice
- Creative stimulation
- Collect the tech that you need

- Develop and maintain relationships
- Build a brand and reputation
1. What does success mean to you?
First, determine and define the success of music production in 2021 means to you. Otherwise, you will not be able to track your progress.
Success means different things to different people, and depending on who you are and how long you’ve been in production, the concept of success will and will change. These are some examples of what success means to people.
2. Set one or more goals related to your idea of success.
Once you know what success means to you, you can set one or more goals related to that idea. Make them more significant than you would like, but not so big that a) you think they are impossible, or b) impossible. For example, if you just started production, don’t set a goal to “participate in Burning Man Day in 6 months”.
Likewise, don’t set a goal to travel around the world just because this is the “peak of success in music production” for many people. It is hard work, with its shortcomings and sacrifices. Again, your goal must be linked to the idea of success.
3. Focus and eliminate distractions.
Whether you are good or bad, you will be hated and criticized (by others and yourself). This can be tiring and scary, but having a strong “why” will help you in difficult times. Regardless of whether you are selfish or not, as long as you are completely honest with yourself.
4. Practice, practice, and more practice
Easy to say, hard to do. After months, weeks, or days, the best intentions may disappear. How to attack? Plan your work and work as planned. Production time on the calendar. Training schedule on the calendar. Network time. To create bulletproof plans, routines, and workflows, check out my book “Become a music creator.”
5. Creative stimulation
In addition to the fact that you intend to achieve your music production goals this year, you don’t need to talk much. It would help if you were inspired and stimulated regularly to keep yourself excited and fun.
So, listen to the most diverse music types, get to know other art forms, live, fall in love, go out, and have fun! Sitting in front of the screen 24 hours a day, seven days a week, rolling through the 326 sample steps will not make this creative flow. Keeping the pulse of musical style will also provide creativity.
6. Collect the tech that you need.
As with any art, you need the tech ingredients to start. What are these tech components? A computer, a DAW, samples, a soft synthesizer, speed, and creativity.
The original music synthesizer plug-ins can create some incredible sounds. While having some low samples can make life very difficult, you don’t need the latest sample pack to produce world-class music.
Sure, you can get some new examples or patches to get inspired, but don’t mistakenly think that you need a new sample package before you get “good” stuff. You just need to learn how to make the most of what you have.
7. Continued Learning
Whether you are looking for how to create a specific sound or effect on YouTube, learn how to market your product, or take a dedicated music production course, you need to set aside time to learn new skills, which is critical to success this year.
Besides, if you don’t need new skills to achieve your goals, then your goals are not big enough!
Continuous learning has the double advantage of maintaining a high level of interest. Besides, if you don’t improve and learn new skills, you will stabilize the music and end up getting tired of creating music. Trust me. This happened to most producers and me over and over again. Fortunately, it is treatable. Get committed to improving and educating yourself.
8. Develop and maintain relationships.
If your success idea is not just making your favourite song, then your success will involve other people. Moreover, this can be your audience, colleagues, friends, musicians, singers, composers, business people, agents, heads of record labels, etc. Building and maintaining relationships is a skill, and sometimes it means stepping out of our comfort zone.
9. Build a brand and reputation.
Although I do not think that new producers should not work on the website/ logo instead of learning their trade, it is good to develop the brand from the beginning.
I hope the above tips will help you answer how to be successful in music production in 2021 if you are looking to be a music producer.
